If it's one thing I'm thankful for in my time as a Dine Out reviewer, it's a chance to sample foods I might not have ever considered on my own — especially when visiting the wonderful Portuguese restaurants found throughout the SouthCoast. For more than eight years, I've sampled a cuisine and a culture that had previously been unknown to me. | read more
Theme dinners slated

Chef Mike Melo is back at work in his renewed M&C Cafe, which was severely damaged by fire in November 2007.
His January newsletter arrived too late to let readers know about his "Evening in Paris" theme dinner, held last night, but you might want to mark your calendars for the events coming up in February and March.
Mardi Gras will be celebrated Feb. 24 with a menu of chicken and smoked sausage gumbo, crawfish remoulade, roasted duck with duck rice and sweet potato, and bananas Foster bread pudding with vanilla ice cream.
The popular "Fried, Stewed and Nude Oysterfest" makes its return on March 24. That menu features oyster artichoke soup, oyster Bienville, carpetbagger's steak with fried oysters, twice-baked potatoes, creamed spinach, and chocolate mousse oysters.
Both dinners begin at 7, and the charge is $26, not including beverages, tax and tip. Reservations are required; call (508) 993-2219.
Also, the chef said some customers have expressed interest in cooking classes. He invites cooking enthusiasts to call him at the restaurant to sign up for a potential Sunday class in February.
